Recaplica is built for one thing: helping you understand quickly. That applies to this page too, so let's start with the gist.

The recap

• Statistics only if you accept: we use Google Analytics to learn which content helps most, but it starts switched off and only activates with your consent, which you can withdraw from "Cookie preferences" at the bottom of every page.
• No profiling: no advertising, no pixels, no cross-site tracking.
• No accounts or forms: we never ask for your name, email or any other data.
• Your progress (quiz grades, explanations you write) stays on your device only and is never transmitted to us.
• The only data involved is the technical browsing data processed by the infrastructure serving the site.

1. Data controller

2. What data is processed, and why

Technical browsing data

As with every website, when you visit a page your browser shares some technical data (IP address, browser type, requested page) with the infrastructure hosting the site. Recaplica is served by Cloudflare, which processes this data to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse and attacks. Legal basis: legitimate interest in the operation and security of the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare retains this data for the limited technical time set by its systems, and we do not use it to identify you.

Data saved on your device (localStorage)

Some features — quiz grades, the explanations you write in the "Explain it in your own words" exercise — are saved in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device: it is not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we cannot see it. This is strictly necessary technical storage for features you actively use, which requires no consent. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser data.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics 4)

To understand which content is most useful we use Google Analytics 4, a service by Google Ireland Ltd. that produces aggregate statistics (page views, city-level location, device type). It works like this: it is off by default — when you open the site no cookie is set and no request is sent to Google. Only if you accept from the banner is the measurement tool loaded, which sets measurement cookies (valid up to 13 months). Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time from the "Cookie preferences" link at the bottom of every page. Google Analytics 4 does not log IP addresses; any transfers to the United States take place under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which Google has certified to. We do not link statistics to any other data and never use them for advertising or profiling.

Email you send us

If you contact us, we process your address and the content of your message for the sole purpose of replying, and keep them for as long as needed to handle the request.

"Request a Recap" service

If you request a new Recap, we process the requested topic and your email address for two purposes only: verifying that the request comes from a real person (confirmation email, so-called double opt-in) and notifying you when the Recap is online. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by ticking the box when you submit and by confirming from the link. The service is meant for people aged 14 or over (Art. 2-quinquies of the Italian Privacy Code): if you are younger, ask a parent to make the request for you. Emails are sent through a transactional email provider acting on our behalf. Minimal retention: if you don't confirm, the request and your address are deleted; after the notification email your address is deleted and only the requested topic is kept, anonymously, for editorial statistics. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile (bot check without tracking cookies); your IP address is only used in hashed form to limit abuse. You can withdraw consent at any time by writing to [email protected]: we will delete the request.

3. What we do NOT do

No advertising, no profiling, no sharing of data with third parties for commercial purposes, no cookies without consent. Even the fonts are hosted on our own servers: until you accept statistics, your visit generates no requests to external third-party services.

4. Transfers outside the EU

Cloudflare and Google are US-based providers operating global networks. Any transfers of data outside the EU take place under the safeguards of Articles 44-49 GDPR (the EU-US adequacy decision — Data Privacy Framework, which both have certified to — and standard contractual clauses).

5. Your rights

Under Articles 15-22 GDPR you have the right to access the data concerning you, to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and to object to processing. You can exercise these rights by writing to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR); for Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it).

6. Updates to this notice

If the site ever introduces services that change the picture described here — for instance advertising networks, which would require a consent banner — this page will be updated before activation, and the date above will reflect the change.
